Night Mud by Longshot (f/m, qs) Carrie sat in front of her mirror applying a bit of eye shadow as the doorbell rang. She grumbled to herself, it was the third time she'd been interrupted since she'd started getting ready for her date. Her parents weren't home so she had to answer the door. She annoyedly walked downstairs. She was almost ready, if she could just finish her make up. She had on her black minidress and black stockings. She had planned to enjoy this date, if she could ever get to it. Her long brown hair was fixed up nicely. She was a sight even for the normally short and slender woman. She sighed as the doorbell rang again. "I'm coming already," she yelled. As she opened the door the delivery man blushed. "Oh, umm, hi, Miss! You look nice!" It was Carrie's turn to blush. "Thanks," she mumbled. The man extended a package he'd been holding under one arm. "Are you Carrie Wilmington?" She nodded. "I need you to sign for this then, Miss." Carrie nodded. "Umm okay." She took the pad and started to sign. As she did a small black form darted out the door. "Oh ... Midnight! Come back here you stupid cat!" The delivery man looked a bit embarrassed. "Oh ... I'm sorry, do you want me to help you catch her?" Carrie shook her head. "She'd just run from you anyway. I'll get her, but thanks." She set the box inside and took off after the cat. The delivery man just shook his head and hopped back into his truck. Carrie chased the cat around the house and into the back yard. She lived out in what she called la-la land, since her nearest neighbor was about a mile away. Out back of her house was a large marshy field, which she had been warned since she moved out here not to go into. Especially not at night. Carrie groaned as Midnight ran right into that marsh. "Stupid cat!" She looked up, it wasn't quite dark yet, but it would be soon. She debated for a moment at just leaving the cat out there, but she'd hate herself if she never came back. She also knew she didn't have time to go back inside and get a light and change into something she wouldn't ruin in the marsh. She could always change pantyhose, she decided as she darted in. She walked into the marsh. The ground was soft and wet beneath her feet. It felt slimy, and the sooner she could be out of here the happier she'd be. She saw Midnight sitting on a small tuft of grass in something that looked to be a clearing. She was sitting there cleaning herself. "Stupid cat, make me come all the way out here after you." Midnight looked up at the angry human and mrowled. She didn't see what all the fuss was about. If the human would let her out more often she wouldn't have to do this. Midnight yawned and stretched in her catlike manner. Then looked at Carrie expectantly. Carrie narrowed her eyes. "If I didn't think I'd hate myself ..." she grumbled at the cat. She didn't notice as the ground wobbled underneath her feet. She walked swiftly towards the cat who sat there watching her, until her foot broke through the surface of a seemingly harder crust of mud. She stopped and frowned as she pulled her foot up out of the slimy brown muck. "Oh gross! Now I'm gonna have to take another bath." She set her foot down and started to walk forward, except that her right foot wasn't following commands. She looked down to see it mired up to her ankle in the mud. She glared at the cat. "See what you made me do now?" Midnight mrowled again and watched her. Carrie pulled each foot out of the mire and managed to take another step forward which she quickly discovered to be a laborious process, as each foot kept sinking into the soft mud. She stopped a moment to judge the distance between her and Midnight. "Just a few more steps, then I can get that infernal cat, and hopefully get ready before Jason gets here." She sighed and started to take another step but found she couldn't. While she'd been standing still the mud had taken the opportunity to engulf her stocking clad calves. Carrie cried out in frustration and began to try and pull her legs free. She began pumping them up and down as she struggled to get them loose. She discovered that her struggling caused her to sink to her knees. Carrie looked at the cat again. "What is this? What have you gotten me into?" Midnight mrowled questioningly as if she were trying to see how the human playing in mud was her fault. She stood and began to pad over to where Carrie was.. "Get back you stupid cat!" Carrie yelled. "You're gonna sink too!" The cat darted off again as Carrie yelled at it. She turned enough to see that it was headed back towards the house before returning to her own plight. The mud had taken her knees and was now working its way up her thighs. It was cold and felt so slimy. Carrie wanted nothing more than to be out of this mess and to be in a nice hot shower right now. She glanced around desperately looking for something to grab onto. She saw the small grassy area the cat had been sitting on previously. She reached for it and grabbed the grass. However the grass came out by it's roots. She cried out in frustration and threw the grass down. The mud was steadily climbing up her thighs and slipping under the skirt of her dress. Carrie looked around again for a tree limb, a root, anything. But nothing was available. Carrie started yelling for help. Maybe Jason had arrived, maybe he'd hear her. She screamed for what seemed like forever until her voice gave out. It seemed to accomplish nothing. In the meantime however she slowly sank into the bog. Her waist, her chest slowly but surely settling into the sucking mire below her. Jason pulled up into the drive cursing himself. He was late and was sure Carrie was going to kill him. He'd already gotten the reservations for dinner pushed back an hour out of pure luck. As he jumped out of the car he was surprised to see Midnight sitting on the front porch, curled into a small ball. She looked up and mrowled at him. Jason raised a brow. "I didn't think Carrie let you out, what are you doing out here, hmm?" He reached down to pick the cat up, but it jumped up and darted just out of his reach. Jason looked over at the cat which mrowled at him again. "What don't you want to go inside Midnight? I'm sure you're hungry." The cat ran around the corner of the house. Jason sighed. He knew Carrie and her cat. If he left that cat outside she'd kill him. He chased Midnight around the side of the house to find her sitting at the edge of the marsh which bordered Carrie's backyard. "Midnight, c'mere kitty, you don't wanna go in there. C'mon now." He edged up to the cat only to have to dart out of his reach again and into the swamp. Jason was getting frustrated now. Midnight never ran from him like this. He chased her into the marsh and found her sitting near a small clearing. "There you are you crazy cat!" He kneeled down to pick up the cat when he heard something else. Carrie had leaned her head back in the mire. Under one foot which she was using to hold herself above the surface, was a small ledge. Her hands and face, and long reddish brown hair were the only things visible on the surface. She'd closed her eyes, waiting for the inevitable moment when her foot would slip or the ledge would crumble. She'd heard Midnight's familiar mrowl and then Jason's voice. She opened her eyes, and could only barely choke out his name. Between her limited breath and hoarse voice it was all she could do. Tears filled her eyes, she wanted so badly for him to see her, to notice her form, before it was gone forever. Jason looked around, he kept hearing something soft. A voice maybe. He looked down at Midnight, or started to. He paused midway, as he saw Carrie's face surrounded by a circle of mud, and her long reddish-brown hair. Tears were streaming from her eyes, and her hands delicately pawed at the mire. "Carrie?" he cried out. Carrie wanted to nod, to speak but she was too scared she might sink out of sight. She could only look at him. Jason frowned. "Hang on love, I'm going to get something ... I'll get you out of there!" He began to look around and finally found a large stick. He grabbed it and ran over to the bank of the quicksand pit. "Here Carrie ... I'm going to put this next to your hand. Grab on and I'll pull you out." Carrie heard something about a stick and grabbing. Most of the world was cut off to her and she had to strain to hear anything through her half submerged ears. She felt something poke her hand and she grabbed it, holding on for dear life. She felt herself being slowly pulled through the mire. Her head bobbed up and down and more than once she got a mouthful of mud before her head finally broke the surface for good. Jason pulled as hard as he could. He was a decent sized young man and fairly strong. However adrenaline surged through his body as he fought a deadly game of tug of war for the life of his girlfriend. A game he didn't intend to lose. The mud sucked greedily at her body, fighting to keep it's feminine treasure, almost claiming her on several occasions. Jason dug in his heels and pulled harder until finally her head broke the surface, next to the shore. Carrie felt a pair or hands slip under her armpits and slowly pull her from the mire. She reached out, and wrapped her arms around Jason. Her breasts had barely escaped the mire, but she didn't care, all she wanted was for Jason to hang on to her. Hold her tightly and rescue her from the trap. Jason found he had to kneel down to hold Carrie without being dragged into the mire by his clinging girlfriend. Carrie cried on Jason's shoulder. "It was so scary ... I thought I was going to die!" Jason squeezed her muddy form. He didn't care she was getting mud all over his best shirt, it didn't matter. She was safe and alive which was all that mattered. "Shh, love. It's okay. I have you now," he whispered comfortingly. He ran his fingers through her muddy hair. Carrie nodded. She was quiet as she was pulled slowly from the mire, holding tightly onto Jason. After a long rest which most of which Jason spent comforting his clinging girlfriend the two headed back to Carrie's home. After a shower and a fresh change of clothes Carrie and Jason sat on the couch talking. Midnight jumped up into Carrie's lap and mrowled at her. "It's all your fault you little twit," she grumbled at the cat. "You'll be lucky if I ever feed you again." Midnight smiled to herself, and purred. "Don't feed me huh? I know how to get at you. We'll see what happens when the other one isn't around to save you ..."
